I am SORE!!

And I'm not saying that to complain! :)
My whole body is sore because I finally went to the gym yesterday (Happy Dance!) woop woop!
My legs are sore, so is my upper and lower back. I haven't felt like this in... forever? sounds about right.
Yup, cause Phil stopped dead in his tracks when he saw me walk in, like he saw a ghost or something lol for real
Oops I said "Phil" but I meant "Ajarn Phil Nurse". Phil was honored on May 17th with the title of "Ajarn" which means teacher which is the higher level that can be obtained by an instructor and can only be bestowed by another has that title.
It's a great honor and Phil is very deserving of it for his years of teaching, skills and ability to impart these to others. If you ever take a class with Phil you'll see what I mean immediately. Congratulations Phil!!

You can watch Phil receiving his title of Ajarn and performing the Wai Kru which is the traditional dance done just before a muay thai bout to honor family, trainers, gods and take possession of the ring:

Words of a Champion

I am an ordinary man who worked hard to develop the talent I was given. I believed in myself, and I believe in the goodness of others.

Today I ran

Today, I ran. I didn't jog, I didn't pace myself and trot as usual.
I ran today.
I ran for all the days I haven't run in the past 2 years.
I ran for all the times I have not trained in I can't remember how long.
I ran to get rid of all the frustration I feel toward my current situation and all disappointment I have of not yet having changed my current situation.
I ran so I can leave my doubts, my fears and my anger behind.
I ran because I still can.
I ran with all my heart and all my soul but put my mind on pause.
I ran to let go of everything.
I ran until it hurt, until I felt empty.
Today, I ran. And I feel so much better

Greatness, even in simple things, inspires

My eyes fell upon this story just now and I thought I'd share it with you:

His resilience and will power resonated with a few people:

Well. Whatever I haven't made happen so far are my own doing. 100%.
Now is the time to change that.

Happy New Year!!

2015, I sure am glad that you are here! cause 2014 was not my year in terms of Muay Thai. epic fail it sure was.
The New Year is here and I am committed to not repeating old mistakes and bad habits. :)
And so I went for a run in the brisk NYC weather yesterday morning, it felt great. Until a virus caught up with me and kept me in bed until today. boo.
Bah no harm done, almost back to normal though I lost 6lbs in the process. Uhmm not a desirable way to lose weight in case you were wondering. Not at all, ewww. That's all I'll say about that.
So I closed out 2014 by going to a regular gym 2 weeks ago after missing class at The Wat. Did 4 miles on the treadmill and struggled to find what speed to select, which incline to input and how long I could run. I kept fussing with the settings for most of the run but got through it. Meanwhile this old dude was having ball on his elliptical, working up a sweat, pumping his arms around and singing about staying in shape. I was impressed with his self-motivation for sure.
On my way home I had to text Phil to let him know that I thought his gym is the best gym in the whole wide world! which of course it is if you love Muay Thai like I do.
I also brought my niece to the gym so the next generation in the fam gets to maybe love Muay Thai as well.
She learned the following with the other kids:
#1 Jab
#2 Cross
#3 Jab Cross
#4 Left Hook
#5 Left Uppercut
She had fun though I wouldn't call it love for Muay Thai. Not yet anyway! ;)
Happy New Year everybody!!
